Commissioner Cassellius Appoints School Safety and Technical Assistance Council Members

ROSEVILLE – Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius has named the individuals who will serve on the School Safety and Technical Assistance Council. The 22-member council will provide guidance to the School Safety and Technical Assistance Center, which was established under the Safe and Supportive Minnesota Schools Act by Governor Mark Dayton and the 2014 Legislature. Members were selected through the secretary of state’s open appointments process.

The center was created to serve as a resource to schools throughout Minnesota, working in tandem with educators to prevent bullying and improve school climate and safety. The council is tasked with providing leadership on multiple fronts, including the establishment of norms and standards for prevention, intervention, and support for bullying prevention strategies, the advancement of evidence-based best practices, and various other activities.

The first meeting of the council will be Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. in Conference Center A, Room 13 at the Minnesota Department of Education.
