Welcome to the Governor's Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) Forum. This forum provides an opportunity for public comment on the suggested ECAC committee strategies for the development of an early childhood system to support children in their readiness to enter kindergarten. The public comments and suggestions will be taken into consideration as the committees develop their recommendations to present to the Council.

Goal of the Early Childhood Advisory Council:
By 2020, all Minnesota children are school-ready as they enter kindergarten.
The Council will provide recommendations to the Governor and Minnesota Legislature toward a vision for an integrated system for early care and education that will involve families, schools and communities to achieve this outcome.

The Council defines school-ready as having the skills, knowledge, behaviors and accomplishments in the areas of language development, cognition, physical development and social and emotional development to be well prepared to enter school.

The Council is charged with a number of responsibilities through state and federal law. View a summary of the responsibilities. Related responsibilities are grouped and will be the focus of four committees: Accountability, Access and Finance, Professional Development and Early Learning Standards. The forum is organized into the same themes. Post comments, ideas and strategies that have worked in your community into the theme area (thread) that most closely matches your comment. There is a "miscellaneous" category for comments that do not fit into a theme.

This is a moderated forum. Comments will be reviewed by Minnesota Department of Education staff before being posted.

We welcome different points of view and encourage you to submit comments. Only comments that are respectful and do not attack others or their point(s) of view will be considered for posting. We will not post comments containing vulgarity, profanity or any other uncivil language.
Comments must also:
  • be within the scope of the Early Childhood Advisory Council's work;
  • be reasonably accurate with known facts; and
  • not promote products or services.
There may be a delay in the posting of comments to the site. The comment in-box will be monitored during normal business hours, and comments will be posted during that time.

Before you submit your first comment, you will be asked to register by setting up a simple user ID and password. Be sure to keep track of your ID and password. There is no mechanism to retrieve the information for you.

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) does not necessarily endorse the content of the recommendations made by the ECAC or the public comments. For more information about the recommendations, please contact Debbie Hewitt at 651.582.8476 or Debbie.Hewitt@state.mn.us.
