The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is pleased to announce a new Early Learning Scholarships Program available for Minnesota families in early fall of 2013. It will increase access to high-quality early childhood programs for three- to five-year-old children with the highest needs. The 2013 Legislature has appropriated $23 million for FY 2014 (July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014) and $23 million for FY 2015 (July 1, 2014-June 30, 2015) for the program.

Registration and a preliminary schedule are now available for the August 6-7 school leadership summit. Superintendents, charter school directors, and district/school leadership teams are invited to attend. Each day, registration is scheduled from 8:00-8:30; program begins at 8:30.
The keynote address, “World Class Learners – Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students,” will be presented by Dr. Yong Zhao on August 6. Representatives of various Minnesota Department of Education divisions will be hosting tables throughout that day for conversations about the topics you have on your mind. In the General Session on August 7, Commissioner Dr. Brenda Cassellius and Assessment Director Jennifer Dugan will present on “Student Assessment,” and School Finance Director Tom Melcher will present the “Finance Update.” Also that day, Rose Hermodson and Nancy Riestenberg will present repeated sessions on “School Safety and Bullying”; and Greg Keith and Tyler Livingston will present repeated sessions on “Teacher and Principal Evaluation.”
As we enter the 2013-2014 school year, superintendents and directors will begin the annual authorization process for the following secure programs: SERVS Financial, Test WES, Student ID Validation, Graduation Requirement Record and MDE Secured Reports. Submissions are being accepted now through July 31, 2013. Please visit the Data Submission page of the Minnesota Department of Education website. You will find access authorization instructions on each page of the above-mentioned secure programs.
