Education Conversations is a cable television show hosted by education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius. Each monthly episode features timely and relevant education topics delivered in a lively talk-show format.
Since the debut of Education Conversations in 2011, we've introduced our new commissioner, her vision for education and talked about the Governor's 7-point Plan for Achieving Excellence. Other topics and guests have included the Office of Early Learning and the Early Learning Council, the 2011 Teacher of the Year Katy Smith, the National Healthy School Recipe Contest winners, and Minnesota's Race to the Top–Early Learning Grant.

The first section of this episode highlights excerpts of the Early Learning Town Hall Forum held at Kennedy High School in Bloomington on July 16, 2013. Panelists, discussing the importance of early learning, are Gov. Mark Dayton; U.S. Sec. of Education Arne Duncan; Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius; Art Rolnick, economist and senior fellow, Univ. of Minn.; Laysha Ward, Pres. of Community Relations, Target Corp.; Maj. Gen. Richard C. Nash, adjutant general, Minn. National Guard; and Rev. Peg Chemberlin, Exec. Dir., Minn. Council of Churches. In the second section, Commissioner Cassellius talks with Melvin Carter, director of the Office of Early Learning, about the importance of early learning and the new early learning scholarships program.

In this episode, Commissioner Cassellius talks with David Stillman, director of Free the Children – Minnesota, about an exciting program to inspire youth to be active in a year-long educational service-learning initiative called "We Act," and about the moving, motivational celebration event they can attend called "We Day." In the second segment, Commissioner Cassellius is joined by Kathy Funston, curriculum director at the Burnsville School District, to discuss the innovative Adult Learners to Classroom Assistants program.

This episode includes Minnesota Department of Commerce Commissioner Michael Rothman speaking about Financial Literacy Month (April) events designed to educate young people and their families about financial issues. In the second segment, Eric Kloos, special education supervisor at MDE, talks about Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports, an effective model that helps teachers manage their classrooms so students spend more time learning and less time in the principal’s office.
