A. What information is key to understanding this model that was not included in the brief at the meeting? Given by State of Vermont Dept of Ed. Entered through ABE programs. Local HS awards the diploma so they are part of the assessment process.

B. Does this model provide for credit for prior learning, demonstrated competency, multiple learning opportunities/coursework, etc.?

C. How does this model meet the needs of Minnesota’s adults? Very individually based – no classroom time just weekly meetings with assessors

D. How do its standards compare to ABE standards? EFF standards

E. How do its standards compare to Minnesota’s K-12 standards? Not well

F. How does this model compare to other models explored?

How it works: Describing the Model’s Implementation

Key Questions to Answer:

A. How could this model be implemented in Minnesota? I don’t think this is a workable model for MN. Most adults take 4-9 months to do at home projects which are then sent to Dept of Ed and the HS that will award the diploma for their trained assessors to assess. Model doesn’t seem sustainable for ABE and doesn’t seem defensible to HS standards.
What roles are needed to appropriately implement this model both at the state and local level? Assessors at ABE, HS, and Dept of Ed
B. How well could this model work in Minnesota’s ABE programs, thinking about programs of all sizes and in all areas of the state?
C. How sustainable would this model be, thinking in terms of operational costs?
D. What adaptations or changes should we possibly consider if the task force chooses to select this model?
