HIV/STI Prevention
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) receives funds through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The purpose of the funding is to reduce sexual risk behaviors and related health problems among youth and assist young people to adopt lifelong attitudes and behaviors that support their health and well-being—including behaviors that reduce their risk for HIV, other STIs, and unintended pregnancy. The HIV/STI program delivers staff development, resources, and technical assistance to schools and youth serving agencies and also provides relevant health data through statewide surveys such as the School Health Education Profile and the Minnesota Student Survey.
