Digital Portfolio Update

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system is in process of divesting itself of ownership of eFolio and is engaging in conversations with AVENET around Version 1 Project Sites and Version 2 eFolio Sites. Outcomes of the MnSCU conversations will be communicated to all eFolio users not later than December 31, 2013. Use of eFolio Project Sites used in the first round of the Three-Year Self Study process is not compromised and can continue as scheduled. All sites will be reviewed as scheduled on August 1, 2013 and fully operational through December 2013. MDE is committed to a no-cost or low-cost digital portfolio and will investigate other technologies to support the three year review process. We will keep the Minnesota Online Learning Advisory Council (MNOLAC) and the Minnesota Online Learning Alliance (MNOLA) group informed as we learn more.

As you know, guiding principles of the self-study are based on continuous improvement process and readily support a change in type of digital portfolio used to support the Three-Year Review process. MDE is:

• Seeking improvements overtime in the renewal process
• Constantly evaluating and improving process
o Based on efficiency, effectiveness, and flexibility
o Assurances and compliance with legislative language and department standards
• Aware that portfolio technology is evolving as are research standards around digital learning, as such guiding principles may change over time as well
