The Minnesota Department of Education’s English Learner (EL) program ensures equity and access to a high-quality education so English Learners may reach their highest potential.
We help local education agencies (LEAs) develop, implement and evaluate research-based language instruction programs designed for English Learners to attain English proficiency and achieve state academic standards. We facilitate academic excellence for English Learners by promoting professional development, providing technical assistance, administering state and federal language education programs, and establishing measures of accountability.
Contact English Learner Programs to subscribe to the bi-weekly EL Coordinator newsletter, which includes timely information about EL programs, resources, and professional development opportunities.
The U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) has prepared a toolkit to help districts identify English learner students. Access this toolkit on the OELA website.
