Assistive Technology (AT)
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) supports a variety of Assistive Technology (AT) initiatives designed to help ensure students with disabilities have access to appropriate assistive technology and receive a free, appropriate public education. Assistive technology can be as simple as a pencil grip or as complex as a voice-activated computer.
AT initiatives include promoting professional development, information dissemination and technical assistance. Resources include the assistive technology listserv, an assistive technology manual, information on the Statewide Assistive Technology Leadership Team and pertinent information on resources and professional development opportunities.
MDE has developed a series of DVDs on AT topics, which can be provided for professional development or general information. Topics include Administrative Supports for AT, The SETT Framework for Consideration of AT, Universal Design for Learning and Organizational Tools, Tools for Reading, Writing and Math. For more information on these DVDs or on other AT topics, contact Kursten Dubbels at 651-582-8562 or via e-mail.
