The impact of children's health on learning, long understood as affecting student attendance, is now recognized through brain research, medical research and learning theory to have a significant impact on student's attention, cognition, energy and interactions. In addition, due to medical advances, more newborn babies and young children with multi-faceted needs are surviving and thriving, bringing complex health and developmental problems to school. In addition, it is clear, though increased understanding of brain functioning, that mental/emotional health greatly affects students' attention and learning.
