Annual Public Report

Minnesota school districts are required to have in place a district process for addressing continuous improvement, community involvement and annual public reporting on curriculum, instruction and student achievement. See Related Links to review the specific legislative requirements that direct a district’s process in developing and disseminating the Annual Report on Curriculum, Instruction and Student Achievement to the public.

The 2009 Legislature removed the requirement that districts submit a copy of their annual public report to the Minnesota Department of Education. A 2008-09 Reporting Checklist has been prepared that includes the change made by the 2009 Legislature. The Guidelines for 2008-09 School District Process and Annual Reporting has also been updated. The documents can be viewed on this page.

Districts may disseminate their report in print through local newspapers, by mail via school newsletters, or by posting to the district Website. If the Website is used, a notice that includes the URL of the document must be published in a print form that is available to the community, and print copies must be available to the public upon request.

The graduating class of 2009 will be the last class to receive diplomas under Minnesota Rule 3501.0160 District Reporting Requirements and Minnesota Rule 3501.0140 Test Administration related to the Basic Skills Test (BST). Due to data privacy issues, districts are not required to report the data when the number of students that have not met the BST requirement is nine or fewer.
