Trades and Industry Technology

The Minnesota Career and Technical Education Programs in the areas of trade and industrial education are designed to prepare secondary students for rewarding careers in high-demand, high-paying occupations. Competency-based instruction is delivered that has been developed, reviewed, modified, and authenticated by referencing to national and state standards, as well as with local level advisory committee input. Trade and industrial instructional areas include education in the following career clusters:

Construction – includes instructional programs that prepare students for careers in areas such as carpentry, cabinet-making and mill work, electrical, electronics equipment repair, building maintenance, heating/ventilation/air-conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, plumbing, painting, brick masonry, and pipefitting.

Communication – includes instructional programs that prepare students for careers in areas such as drafting, Computer-Assisted Design (CAD), computer maintenance and repair, printing, graphic design, commercial photography, and television/radio programming.

Manufacturing – includes instructional programs that prepare students for careers in areas such as instrumentation, robotics technology, sheet metal work, tool and die, welding, and metal fabrication.

Transportation – includes instructional programs that prepare students for careers in transportation-related positions such as auto collision repairer. Students may also train to be a mechanic on automobiles, diesel equipment, heavy-duty equipment, aviation equipment, or marine and small engines.
